DURHAM, N.C. – October 21, 2019 – MindPath Care Centers, North Carolina’s largest outpatient mental and behavioral healthcare provider, is pleased to announce that it is partnering with Holly Hill Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. to deliver a training event on October 29 titled, “MindPath Care Centers in Conversation with Holly Hill: Best Practice Care for LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Plus) Young Adults.” Attendees will gain insight into the unique healthcare questions and challenges experienced by LGBTQ+ young adults, along with best practices for working with their health and mindcare. MindPath Care Centers’ Clinical Director of Psychotherapy and Gender and Sexual Diversity Program (GSDP) Director, J. Louise Newton, MSW, LCSW, SEP, will be one of the lead trainers.

Louise Newton, LCSW | Durham Therapist

“We are very excited to deliver this important training event with Holly Hill Hospital, which is the only facility to offer the specific inpatient services that we are focused on for this training,” said Louise Newton. “The program will feature dynamic, interactive, and educational training centered around best practices for working with queer and trans individuals. From social service and health care providers, to everyday workplace employees, our goal is to improve the climate and support systems for LGBTQ+ communities by fostering understanding, imparting knowledge, and providing strategies for creating safe and affirming environments.”

Newton has been a clinical educator and advocate for LGBTQ+ communities since 2001. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and her Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining MindPath Care Centers, Newton worked at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine as a residential therapist. She is also a field instructor for the University of North Carolina School of Social Work and Smith College of Social Work graduate programs.

Jeff Williams, CEO of MindPath Care Centers added, “MindPath Care Centers has a long-term goal of creating understanding and lowering the stigma associated with seeking treatment for mindcare. We are pleased to have the opportunity to partner and work together with Holly Hill Hospital to better serve the unique needs of the young adult community.”

The event will be held at Holly Hill Hospital, 3019 Falstaff Road in Raleigh and kicks-off with a three-hour training session from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Young Adult Mental Health Panel Discussion with speakers from North Carolina State University and The Pines Outpatient from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Topics covered will include how therapists and other mindcare and physical providers can offer best practice care to trans and gender-variant clients, particularly young adults. Lunch will be served to those attending the panel discussion.

Registration is required to attend. To register, please contact Ashley Orlovich, Business Development Director of Holly Hill Hospital at (919)817-9149, [email protected] or Elizabeth Syed, Outreach Manager at MindPath Care Centers, (919)884-0540, [email protected].
